Are You Sibling-Approved, Rakhi-Ready?

Sometimes, getting the gift right is about remembering that one Reel they sent, that window-shopping pause, or that casual “this is nice” you almost forgot.
To understand what is really shaping Rakhi gifting in 2026, PulseAI Research surveyed individuals on when they choose gifts, where they look for clues, what they prefer gifting, and what they would most love to discover inside a Rakhi gift.
The findings reveal a simple shift: the perfect Rakhi gift may be becoming less about guessing and more about noticing.
The Story in Short
- Nearly 2 in 3 respondents decide their Rakhi gift only a few days before or at the last minute. Meanwhile, nearly 1 in 2 turn to Reels, posts, links or ads for clues about what their sibling actually wants.
- And when it comes to discovering something new through a Rakhi gift, Beauty & Wellness leads at 73.5%.
- In short, Rakhi gifting in 2026 is increasingly being shaped by last-minute decisions, digital hints and gifts that show someone was paying attention.
Sibling love is early. Gift planning isn’t.
Rakhi comes around every year. Apparently, that does not mean everyone starts planning early.

Together, that means nearly 2 in 3 respondents make their gifting decision close to Rakhi. Only 37.1% start one to two weeks in advance.
There is something very sibling-like about that contradiction: years of knowing each other, followed by a few frantic days figuring out what to buy.
For brands, this creates an important window. Consumers may enter gifting mode late, so visibility and discoverability in the days leading up to Rakhi can matter enormously.
That Reel they sent was the hint.
The modern Rakhi wishlist may not look like a wishlist at all.
When asked how they figure out what their sibling would actually want, 46.4% said they pick up hints from Reels, posts, links or ads.
By comparison, 27.1% rely primarily on how well they know their sibling’s personality, while 26.5% ask directly or go by things their sibling has previously mentioned.
So, nearly 1 in 2 respondents are reading digital breadcrumbs before deciding what to gift.
That Reel shared three months ago? Possibly a clue.
That product link casually dropped into the chat? Also a clue.
Social content is no longer just influencing what people buy for themselves. It can quietly shape what other people choose to buy for them.
The surprise isn’t the gift. It’s being understood.
There is no single winning Rakhi gift format.

The cross-tab analysis makes this more interesting.
- Among respondents who prefer gifting an experience, 82% use Reels, posts, links or ads for clues.
- Among those who prefer curating the gift around their sibling, 43% rely on how well they know their personality.
- And among physical-product gifters, 41% lean on direct asks or things their sibling has already mentioned.
Different gifts appear to trigger different ways of decoding what the sibling wants. But the underlying mission stays the same: “Will they feel like I really got them?”
Beauty gets the loudest “How did you know?”
Rakhi is not only a gifting occasion. It can also be a discovery occasion.
When respondents were asked which products they would be happiest to discover through a Rakhi gift, Beauty & Wellness emerged as the clear leader at 73.5%.
Fashion & Tech followed at 52.3%, while Food & Lifestyle stood at 37.1%. Respondents could choose more than one category.
The digital trail continues here too: among respondents interested in Beauty & Wellness, 56% use digital cues when figuring out what their sibling may want.
For beauty and wellness brands, that makes Rakhi more than a traditional gifting moment. It becomes an opportunity to place a product in someone’s hands that they may not have discovered for themselves yet.
The reaction brands should be designing for?
“Wait… how did you know I wanted this?”
What do Rakhi gifting trends 2026 mean for brands?
Three signals stand out.
- Consumers are often making the decision late, which increases the importance of strong festive visibility close to Rakhi.
- They are also looking beyond explicit wishlists. Reels, links, posts and everyday digital interactions are becoming informal gifting signals.
- And finally, the value of the gift may increasingly come from relevance rather than price alone.
For marketers, that means creating products and content people naturally want to save, share, send or hint at could matter just as much as the final festive promotion.
Because the Rakhi purchase journey may start well before somebody searches for “Rakhi gift ideas.”
It may start with a Reel. A pause. A link. Or one random:
“This is nice.”
Because siblings remember who really pays attention.
The best Rakhi gifts are rarely remembered because of the bill.
They are remembered because somebody picked up on something small—and turned it into something meaningful.
The best gift doesn’t say: “I spent.”
It says:“I noticed.”
